To the boy in the computer lab:

Funny how the two of us come here almost every day,
but I don't know your name
or anything about you

Except that you probably know Excel much better than I do,
you check your email almost as much as I do
and you're a PC

If this was a romantic comedy, there would be a mix up at the printer and somehow I'd end up with your calculus review sheet, and you'd go home with my art history slide list and that would give me an excuse to talk to you.

And naturally, I'd ask you why you are taking calculus, and maybe you're a business major, or maybe you are one of those blessed souls who wants to teach 17 year olds about integrals and derivatives.
And I'd tell you that in high school, I spent the majority of my calculus experience listening to Three Days Grace on a borrowed iPod.
And you'd confess that your guilty pleasure music is Hanson post-MMMBop.

And I'd laugh.
Hard.
And you'd like that.

And the beginning would really be that easy.

*meet me at the printer in 5?*

these lights will inspire you

I just got chills realizing that, this week, I'll be checking #6 off this list.

I've daydreamed about soaking up those big city lights since at least the first time I saw You've Got Mail.
But probably before that.

On the list of things I really want to do are, among other things:

Eating at least one hot dog every single day.
Eating legit New York pizza (my jersey girl roommate raves about it)
Finding a free concert.
Mets game.
Broadway!
Pretend like every night is my birthday.**

And, most importantly: live and breathe the world of advertising. visit big agencies, and little boutiques. take copious notes in the new journal I just bought, and soak up as much knowledge about this industry as my mind can contain.

And I just might buy myself a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils.

**Because, oh yeah, the day after we get back I turn 22. Madness.

I won't have a ton of extra time, apart from the business of Advertising Week, but if you only had one day to do whatever you wanted in NYC, how would you spend it?

Stay alive.

Some Kind of Story, Part Three

And though playing it safe was comfortable.
And easy.
Most of the time,

She still craved that sense of recklessness.
The unexpected, the spontaneous.
The untested waters.

And though new things made her a bit uneasy,
the uneasiness was not always a bad thing.

from this stage I can tell that she can't let go and she can't relax

January 15th*, here I come.
I'm getting ready.
I'm pooling my resources and drawing from what I've learned and letting my creativity incubate.

If I can't show you anything else,
let me tell you this:

I want it.
I really want it.
And I'm willing to fight for it.

*The deadline to turn in my Advertising application.
